Major General Kevin R. McBride

Major General McBride graduated in 1980 from the University of Rhode Island earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and was commissioned into the Army National Guard as a Second Lieutenant. Following graduation he reported to Fort Knox, KY for initial training as a Cavalry Officer. Upon completion of his initial training, where he was recognized as the distinguished honor graduate, General McBride reported to Fort Rucker, AL for flight school. He returned to Rhode Island in 1982 to continue his professional career as a civil engineer while simultaneously serving as an officer in the Rhode Island National Guard. In 2000 General McBride graduated from the Naval War College in Newport, RI with a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.

In his civilian profession as a professional engineer, General McBride has worked for several consulting engineering firms within the state on a myriad of design projects in both the public and private sector. His design responsibilities included private site development and municipal drainage and roadway improvement projects, as well as highway and transportation system design projects for RIDOT. General McBride has been on the cutting edge of infrastructure improvements and engineering design throughout the state. He has held a variety of engineering positions to include project engineer, project manager, department head and vice president as well as Town Engineer and Director of Public Works for the Town of Bristol.

General McBride has led a distinguished military career in addition to his civilian accomplishments. He has served as a commander at every level from company through brigade. He is a rotary wing senior army aviator with over 1,600 hours flown in the AH-1F/S, OH-6A and UH-1 M/H aircraft. In 2005, General McBride deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom as Commander of Rhode Island’s 43rd Military Police Brigade. While overseas General McBride oversaw all detention operations in Iraq, to include the closure of the Abu Ghraib Detention Facility. He was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2009 and appointed as The Adjutant General for the State of Rhode Island in 2011. He has also served a Homeland Security Advisor for the Chafee Administration and Director of the RI Emergency Management Agency.

General McBride is a native of East Providence and is married to Colleen McBride. He has two daughters, both of whom are pursuing careers in engineering.
